Great Annual Fish Count (GAFC)
Eleven years and counting! Join members of our community during the month of July for the Great Annual Fish Count (GAFC). The event, modeled after Audubon's Christmas bird count, traces its roots to California. In 1992 a small group of marine biologist and recreational divers conducted a visual fish count in the California's Channel Islands National Park. The event is now an international affair.
The event seeks to:
- Introduce snorkelers to fish watching
- Connect fish watching communities with each other
- Encourage participation in REEF's Volunteer Fish Survey's
- Gather data on fish populations within local habitats
