Roatan 2025 CMAS World Cup: Freediving Depth World Series

Welcome to the Depths of Human Potential

Roatan is once again on the global stage as it proudly hosts the CMAS World Cup 2025 – Freediving Depth World Series, a CMAS World Record Status Competition. From June 1st to 9th, this world-class event will bring together elite freedivers from around the globe to test their limits in the pristine waters of the Caribbean.

Set against the stunning backdrop of West Bay Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Central America, this international competition is not just a challenge of skill and stamina—it's a celebration of precision, preparation, and the art of breath-hold diving.

A World-Class Competition in Paradise

Each competition day, athletes will choose which discipline to compete in:

  • FIM – Free Immersion

  • CWT – Constant Weight

  • CWT-BF – Constant Weight Bi-Fins

  • CNF – Constant Weight No Fins

These disciplines push the human body to extraordinary limits, relying on just a single breath to dive hundreds of feet into the ocean’s depths. It's an awe-inspiring spectacle where courage meets calm, and skill meets serenity.

The Venue: San Simon Beach Club, Mayan Princess Resort

The San Simon Beach Club, located at the Mayan Princess Resort, will serve as the competition headquarters. Just a short 3-minute boat ride from the dive site, this premium facility will offer:

  • Registration and office space with Wi-Fi

  • Judges and committee rooms

  • Safe storage, lockers, showers, and changing rooms

  • Full bar, restaurant, lounge chairs, and hammocks

  • A comfortable space for athletes, staff, and guests to relax between dives

Dive Site & Marine Infrastructure

The competition zone lies just 700 meters from the shore (coordinates: N 16° 16' 577" – W 86° 36' 365"), with two permanently installed moorings on a sand patch at a depth of 189 meters (620 feet).

The marine setup includes:

  • Two competition lines anchored to the moorings

  • The Queen Victoria, a 60-foot catamaran offering shade, freshwater showers, bathrooms, and a bar

  • Observation zones for media and guests to view athletes’ performances with snorkel masks

  • A transfer boat running continuously for athletes and judges (3-minute ride)

  • A dedicated emergency evacuation boat

World-Class Safety and Medical Protocols

Safety is paramount. The CMAS World Cup 2025 will deploy:

  • 6 trained safety divers per competition line

  • Deep safety divers with underwater scooters

  • 1 Doctor/medic stationed on each platform

  • Traditional counterbalance rescue systems

  • High-resolution sonar for real-time tracking

  • Ambulance on standby, courtesy of Alert International Rescue

  • Emergency medical clinic within 200 meters

  • Decompression chamber and advanced care center just 15 minutes away

Ideal Conditions for Freediving

Expected Weather – June 2025:

  • Air Temperature: 25–30°C (77–86°F)

  • Water Temperature: 27–29°C (80–84°F), with a slight drop at 100m depth

  • Currents: None to moderate

  • Visibility: 24–40 meters (80–120 feet)
