Roatan News

Our team conducted a survey in which we asked newsletter subscribers what information they would like to see in this monthly newsletter. The results were eye-opening. Most readers stated they wanted more information on island life: local businesses, government entities, and special events. Knowing the type of information readers wanted encouraged me to put a project I was working on in high gear.

For this reason, we will be launching a new website for The Total Information Location. The website will contain technical information about Roatan and also information on local restaurants, dive shops, things to do, local and national government contacts, churches, and charities. Through this new website, I will profile businesses, events, and organizations.

As mentioned in previous newsletters, the Bay Islands, have received a considerable amount of attention from a variety of media TV outlets over the last year. One of the outlets, which have been highlighting the islands is the popular Home & Garden Television.

New U.S. Cruise Option

Recently I shared that the Bay Islands is getting “cruisers” who reach the islands via cruise ship to investigate possible retirement, relocation, and vacation ownership options.

The horrible aftermath of hurricanes in the eastern Caribbean is creating a great deal of rerouting of those ships to Roatan and various locations in the West.

If you have been thinking about visiting Roatan on an upcoming cruise, this year will probably offer you both more options and better prices.

Island Shipping has added Utila to their freight services between Guanaja, Roatan and the northern coastal ports in Puerto Cortes, La Ceiba, Puerto Lempira and Cauquira. Also, Island Shipping now has their dock and depot in Utila, near the Utila Municipal dock, which can handle containers up to 40 feet in size.

Also, the first air-conditioned bar in Utila Town Center is now open. Step In Bar & Grill is the first air-conditioned bar/restaurant to open in Utila Town Center.

The only other air-conditioned Bar/Restaurant in Utila is Neptune’s at Coral Beach Village, which is boat access only, but they do offer a water taxi service to get there.

The following is an announcement from the President of the Chamber of Commerce. This, of course, would be huge for the Bay Islands:

"The National Chamber of Tourism of the Bay Islands presents a significant advance in the subject of air connectivity with the new airlines that could integrate the islands of Roatán.

"In conjunction with the government, we are working on connectivity with several airlines. One of these airlines would be Spirit Airlines and the other South West Airlines. This according to the president of the National Chamber of Tourism of the Bay Islands.

Besides, the National Chamber of Tourism knows that this connection can depend a lot on working as a team and show all the benefits of possible integration to improve the airways in the area.

The general tourism of the country of Honduras grew by 4%, while Roatan's general tourism grew by 7%."
