Roatan's Garifuna People

ROATAN'S GARIFUNA PEOPLE

The Garifuna people have lived in Central America since April 12, 1797. They speak the Garifuna language. Most speak English today as well as Spanish. Most of the Garifuna people live along the Cost of Honduras in places like Trujillo, La Ceiba, Tela, Puerto Cortes and other costal towns on the northern Caribbean Coast of Honduras. There are also smaller populations in Guatemala, Belize, Nicaragua, Grenadines, and Saint Vincent. There are also many Garifuna people living inside the continental Untied States primarily in the major urban cities like New Orleans, Houston, Seattle, & New York City.
